I have been wanting to start a blog like this for a long time, mostly to share thoughts with other like-minded investors. In my mind, the whole point of investing is so you can reach your financial objectives faster, and be ready to enjoy it sooner. We don't do this for greed because I don't believe greed really is a constructive emotion when it comes to investing. It leads to poor decision making.
I am a physicist by training, thus I prefer a quantitative approach to investment. I had the pleasure to work through some books on options trading last year and started trading options on my IRA account, and have achieve some very good results. Over time, I've come to realize that holding a portfolio of options is a much more effective way to grow your investment than holding stocks or mutual funds. This is the main reason why I call this blog the "Aggressive Investing". For most people, sticking their money in some S&P 500 index fund and collect 10% return/year is sufficient.. I did that for a long time myself. In fact, my own 401k fund contains a lot of SP500. Warren Buffet swears by that approach as well. However, this is what I have decided to add a high-risk/high-reward component to my portfolio.
I have determined that I was going to take out about 10 percent of my overall retirement portfolio and turn it into my ultra-aggressive fund. I decided that if I do my research right and can get close to 100% annual returns on that money, I would probably be able to retire in 5 years on just that money. Just think, if you have $50,000 in an IRA, and you were able to double that money every year for 5 years, that is $1.6M. If you were to lose $50K from your IRA, it would not really change your life much. However, if it can be converted to a real lump sum of money, it is a life-altering event. I choose to go the latter approach
I'll be posting some of the trades I am making and I welcome all feedbacks. I do have a full-time job and I have a family to attend to. DO NOT expect this blog to be updated on a daily basis. I will post things when I think I have some useful things to say. Mostly, I will be posting my transactions to demonstrate that it is possible (or not) to get huge returns on a regular basis. You can expect honesty out of me. I am not here to sell anything. I want to encourage people to take responsible risks and profit from them.
